Xerox workcenter 5755, turns off after 3 seconds

A customer called me with a dead machine, about 3 months after his warranty expired. They simply unplugged it and moved it to the other side of the open area, plugged it back in and now when you turn it on, the screen with the Xerox logo pops up for about 3 seconds then the machine clicks back off.

I pulled the board under the scanner, reseating the connections and unplugged all the add on pieces. Same result.

I rarely if ever see bad power supplies, so I am curious as to if these are known to blow a fuse, or should I be looking for a short?

Did you try turning it on with the fuser out? If it is in a dusty environment try removing the rear cover and blow the power supply out with canned air. Make sure the machine is unplugged. Sounds like a bad power supply.

thanks for responding. I will try removing the fuser monday, then check the power supply.

Check if Tag155 is marked. If not you may need to install a jumper on the IOT board.

I'll have to get back to you on that when I have my documentation handy but early versions of the 57xx (non-tag 155) had a defect in the IOT PWB that would cause the machines to just turn themselves off after a few seconds of being on. This problem would often not show up for some time after the machine had already been in use. If you look at the Tag maxtrix chart located on the machine (either inside the front cover or on the frame someplace) you can see if Tag-155 is marked (in black). If so, this problem has already been addressed or you have a newer style IOT PWB with the fix already applied. If Tag 155 is not marked then you have an older style IOT PWB and will require the jumper. What exactly it does I'm not sure but on the old style PWBs there is a 4 pin connector that you plug in the jumper to that corrects this problem. After you install it, mark tag 155 on the matrix chart of the machine. I'll report back with additional info and the part # for the jumper kit w/instructions.

Went back and checked and the block for 155 was blacked out. Pulled the fuser and tricked the door and got same result, opened up the back, with it plugged in there is one green light on the board. When I turn it on, the board lights up, then clicks off. Seems likely it's a power supply, however we are not a Xerox dealer for machines that size, and I cannot find a source for parts.

The only green led on the Single Board Controller is for Ethernet controller. The others led's are red
You can check the voltage at PJ106: one 5V, one 12V and several 3.3V
On the Power Distribution Board at PJ131 you must have 3.3V, 5V, 12V and 24V.
Ask the customer to move back the machine at the original place and try to start here.
The problem with the jumper on the IOT is for machine with TAG155 only so this machine is susceptible for that. This is the reason why you make a try and move the machine in the old location.
