Xerox WorkCentre 7428 - how on earth do you adjust image position

This has been beating me up...when we print to the said machine single sided or double sided, the image is 5mm too far to the left (making it 10mm out on duplex).
On our Phaser we just go into tools and can adjust the image output position. Though on the 7428 there doesn't seem to be any means of printing out a registration sheet to scan back in or any adjustment options in the system admin tools?
Am I completely blind? Can any one advise - I don't have any documentation other than the standard Xerox bumph from their website and none of it helps.

    Many thanks

If it is like most other machines in the 'WorkCentre' lineup, adjusting the image position is a service mode function, not available to the user... (Yeah, I know, lame.)

Chances are, based on the generation of that machine, you can log into service mode and do it right from the UI, but I don't know the 74xx series personally.

And I'm not referring to 'admin' mode, but the actual service mode technicians use. You need a special key combo sequence to log bring up a log in screen, and then type a password to get in. It isn't usually TOO hard to find out the log in procedure. I'm sure someone here will know it.

Thanks from your reply Caffeine - yes that does sound rather antiquated not to allow users the ability to change that.

Right need to find the service mode log in then - anyone help with that please?

Especially when their "cheap" Phaser lineup has such a slick, well-designed easy procedure to do the same thing.

This is the method for 76xx and 77xx series WorkCentre machines... Try it and see if it works.

Hold * and # simultaneously and press the STOP button.

That brings up the log in window.

        The password is 6789.

Once in, you're on your own since I don't know the 74xx series. And don't go crazy, you can really mess some stuff up in there.

But the procedure you will want is DC129, System Registration. (Or tray alignment, or some such other wording.)

LOL - I know when to stop or what not to touch - we had a DC12 with the engineer software which I've used to dismantle and repair successfully!
Yes we have a Phaser 7800, easy as pie to make all kinds of image adjustments. The 7428 seems so similar in some aspects though very different on the software front it would seem.
Tried the * and # plus stop - just beeps at me :-(

Its going to be something simple like that though - thanks for the suggestion

Enter Service mode: Press and hold the zero 0 button for 5-10 seconds. While holding 0 press the start key. enter code 6789.

Hit Machine Status button on control panel.

            Select Tools.

Under "Group" select "Common service settings"

Under "Features" scroll down and select "Maintenance / Diagnostics"

            Select "Registration"

            Select System registration adjustment.

You can play around with the settings here to fix your registration problem. Remember what you change so you can set it back if need be.

Thanks Exok - yes that got me in...though the test sheet shows that its correctly adjusted before I touch it.
The system registration does indeed move the test image (I can see the adjustments made on each test page printed) but when you print from a PC to the printer the registration is 6mm different? and the system registration adjustments don't move the image at all?

Just thought I'd reply with the resolution:

Extended image area was selected... soon as I unselected it BOOM - bang on registration...only took 6 months to find that!

                Happy Days!
