[Misc] WC4150 Hangs up system when printing PDF.

WC4150 Hangs up system when printing PDF through the network card. Xerox WC4150 (2 of them) windows 7 OS.
Leaves computer print spooling, can see the job on the WC4150 but it says held by system. Locks up the machine, so no fax or copying.and when it does print the PDF it comes out 51/2 x 81/2 statement size. on one of the machines...But prints fine when using USB port...

    Any ideas?? Driving me nuts.

    Thanks in advance.....

Re: WC4150 Hangs up system when printing PDF.

I would start with reloading / updating machine software.

    WorkCentre 4150 Drivers & Downloads

    Scroll down to firmware.

You can also try running a memory clear if your memory is corrupt.

Before performing a memory clear, inform the customer that all address books and mailboxes will be deleted. Also, all machine settings will be reset to default.
If possible, before performing a memory clear, print the following reports, refer to GP 5:
    1. Fax phone book.
    2. Local and group members email address books.
    3. System configuration.

    Perform the following:
    1. To save the machine settings, ask the customer to export the fax address book, local and group email address books, then perform a cloning procedure from the web UI.
    2. Enter diagnostics, GP 1.
    3. Select Other Routines.
    4. Select Memory Clear.
    5. The memory clear will result in the following:
      • The contents of the fax address books to be deleted.
      • Mail boxes to be deleted.
      • Templates to be deleted from the hard disk.
      • NVM values to be reset to default.
      • If the machine has a fax, the fax will have to be re-installed.

    6. Ask the customer to import the fax address book, local and group email address books, then install the clone file from the web UI.

This can also be caused by a corrupt HDD.

Cleaning a WorkCentre 4150 Hard Disk Drive
The following procedure can be used to clean the HDD (attached in both mode: zipped and not zipped file), provided the system can be booted up and communicate on a network using CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS).
WARNING: The HDD Format and Memory Clear completely removes all customer setup information from the machine. This procedure contains steps to save and restore this information, provided that it is followed completely.
    1. Export the E-Mail Local Address Book to a *.csv file
    a. Select the CWIS Properties tab, Services/E-Mail Settings/Local Address Book menu
    b. Click on Export to File
    c. Select Save from the File Download window
    d. Specify a folder name and file name for the *.csv file that will contain the address book, and then click Save.
    2. Export the fax phonebook to a *.csv file
    a. Select the CWIS Properties tab, Services/Fax/Fax Phone Book menu
    b. Click on Export to File
    c. Select Save from the File Download window
    d. Specify a folder name and file name for the *.csv file that will contain the Fax Phone Book, and then click Save.
    3. Create a Clone file for the WC4150
NOTE: The "CleanHDD.hd" firmware patch used in step 4 is only compatible through s/w version 10.100.53.000. If your machine has a newer s/w version, downgrade to 10.100.53.000 or lower before creating the clone file. Firmware version 10.100.46.000 is available in GSN Library #8009. CleanHDD.hd is available in Library #11322, and for Staples Canada in Library #7750. A detailed instruction guide (powerpoint) to 4150 CleanHDD.hd is in GSN Library #384.
    a. Select the CWIS Properties tab, General Setup/Cloning menu
    b. Verify that all of the features are selected for cloning
    c. Click on Clone
    d. When the next page appears, click on the Cloning.dlm link to download the clone file.
    e. Select Save from the File Download window.
    f. Specify a folder name and file name for the *.dlm file that will contain the cloning information, and then click Save.
    4. Send the special CleanHDD.hd (attached) firmware patch Note: Any jobs will be lost
    a. Ensure that the WC4150 is idle and no print jobs are in the queue.
    b. Select the CWIS Properties tab, Maintenance/Firmware Upgrade menu.
    c. Enter the Administrator login and password if required.
    d. Click on the Browse button (in the Firmware Upgrade box) and navigate to the CleanHDD.hd file.
    e. Click on the Install Software button, and, when prompted, confirm the installation.
    f. Click OK on the Acknowledgement window pop-up.
NOTE: There will not be any indication at the WC4150 that anything has happened. However, if the E-Mail Local Address Book and/or Fax Phonebook contained any information prior to running the CleanHDD.prn job, you can use CWIS to verify that they have been cleared.
    5. Perform a Memory Clear (Technician Only)
    a. Access Technician Mode and enter the technician password on the WC4150.
    b. Select the Diagnostic Routines tab.
    c. Select Other Routines.
    d. Select Memory Clear.
    e. Press the Memory Clear button and wait approximately 5 seconds for the WC4150 to reboot.
    f. Enter the information requested by the Installation Wizard.
    6. Install the Cloning information from the Clone file.
    a. Select the CWIS Properties tab, General Setup/Cloning menu.
    b. Enter the Administrator login and password if required.
    c. Locate the Install Clone File box near the bottom of the page.
    d. Click on Browse and navigate to the cloning information file saved in step 3 above.
    e. Click the Install button and, when prompted, confirm the install.
    f. Click OK on the Acknowledgement window pop-up.
NOTE: If the Acknowledgement Window displays Web Page Not Found information then it may be necessary to force the 4150 to recognize you as an Administrator. To do so, first close the offending Acknowledgement Window, then open the Maintenance/Firmware Upgrade menu on the Properties tab, which will request an Administrator log-in and password. DO NOT upgrade the firmware after authenticating, because the clone file is generally not compatible across firmware versions. Rather, go back to step (a) and try the clone file install once again.
    7. Import the Fax Phonebook
    a. Select the CWIS Properties tab, Services/Fax/Fax Phone Book menu.
    b. Click on Import from File.
    c. Navigate to the file that was created in step 2, and click OPEN.
    d. Verify that the phonebook information was properly restored.
    8. Import the E-Mail Address Book
    a. Select the CWIS Properties tab, Services/E-Mail Settings/Local Address Book menu.
    b. Click on Import from File.
    c. Navigate to the file that was created in step 1, and click OPEN.
    d. Verify that the address book information was properly restored.
    9. Install upgrade firmware (10.100.71.000 or over). The General Release version 10.100.71.000 is available at Xerox.com. For Staples Stores / Bureau en gros (Canada Only), use 10.100.57.000 from GSN Library 7750.
    a. Use ETI 663663 - How to update firmware via USB Tools Port to avoid Ethernet NIC timeouts.
Obtain upgrade firmware *.hd file (SPARs on specific recommendation of a Xerox Technical Support representative only) and place it in an accessible folder.
NOTE: If the Machine Firmware version is:
    • Prior to 10.100.20.000: PATCH UPGRADE (Filename:MCB_V1010208PN.hd) will be required, to prevent losing LDAP settings, the Patch upgrade takes approximately five minutes. After the patch upgrade is completed then upgrade to the new release.
    • 10.100.20.000 or later, the upgrade patch is not required.

To avoid future Callback encourage our Customers enable Image Over Write, Job Over Write or Disk Over Write options.
