DC250 - belt edge error reoccurs after setting NVRAM

I have just acquired a low mileage DC250 which is showing the 042-326 error so I went into diagnostics and reset 741-105 to 0 - after saving and rebooting the error comes right back.

The machine is pretty dirty so I suspect a sensor failure - the IBT belt looks almost new.

What are the next steps and where do I locate the sensor for the IBT belt to check it?

    Thanks!!

    A bit more info...

I pulled the IBT carrier to check the belt and found that it is running almost off the front of the rollers. Could this be the cause of the problem and if I loosen it as if I were going to change it and then realign it to the rollers, would that help?

I would remove the belt and clean the sensor and the patch on the inside of the belt and then center the belt on the IBT assembly and run belt edge learn.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. When I tried to do Belt Learn, after pressing 'Start' it came back immediately with "Belt learn stopped with an error" but no mention of what the error was nor did the machine actually try and do anything, so I will recenter it and try again.

If it does it as soon as you press start the sensor is either dirty or bad. There is a way to check it in diagnostics. The part# is 130E84270.

I don't suppose you have a photo or diagram of exactly where it is located do you?

It is on the bottom side of the IBT assembly just left of center. It is a photo sensor. Also check the condition of the patch on the belt. It can wear down and not reflect properly.

Thanks - I cleaned the patch but when I do a Belt learn it says it failed with error 042-327 but when I power off and on again it now says 042-328

Do I need to remove the belt to clean the sensor or can I reach it with say a Q tip?

                Cheers!

You need to remove the belt to clean the sensor. The other code is for the belt edge sensor.

I think I sorted the Belt Edge Sensor by aligning the belt into the center of the rollers, so tomorrow I will remove the belt and clean the sensor - if that fails then time for a new belt and sensor I think

                    Thanks for your help

In IO Check enter 042-200 manually rotate the belt one cycle. Watch for the "Value" to go from low to high. On the right side of the IBT assembly is a small black gear just above the larger white one. Insert a screw into the end of the metal shaft protruding from the black gear. This will allow you to rotate the belt.

These are old Videos I made but them may be of some help.

Re: DC250 - belt edge error reoccurs after setting NVRAM - SOLVED

Just a quick update - thanks for all the help and advise.

When removing the IBT belt, I found that the bearing carrier of the lowest roller was fractured (it's plastic) causing it to be twisted. I epoxied it back in place and the IBT belt now runs true. I also cleaned the belt sensor with an alcohol swab (q tip) and compressed air and the silver reflective piece on the inside of the belt and it's all running fine.

Whenever I start the machine, I can hear the belt running in it's 'home position search' and it seems to take much longer than my other 242, so I just hit the Start button to do a random copy and it then seems to register and behave normally.

I have ordered a used IBT assembly and new belt anyway, but the epoxy repair seems to be holding for now
