Workcentre 7665 not switching between black toners after one toner cart goes out

I have a Xerox Workcentre 7665 that will not automatically switch between black toner carts when one toner cart becomes empty. The machine just shuts down and says to replace the black toner when there is still a fresh one in the other slot.

Has anyone experienced this issue, and if you have how did you fix it?

This is actually normal operation. When K1 toner is empty but K2 still has toner, a message will keep popping up reminding the user to replace the K1 toner. If you close this pop up window, you can make selections and make copies but the replace K1 toner message will keep popping up. There is no "fix" for this because this is how the machine was designed to operate.

Think of K2 toner as a spare tire (the little one not a full size one). It'll get you to the repair shop but you shouldn't plan to go on a long trip on it.
