Xerox wc 5855 blurry scan to pc

I have a client that has a WC 5855 and has been complaining about blurry scans when scanning to a pc. Not all the time but enough to grip at me. The scans look blurry, pixilated, the whole page has a slight grey background and where the characters are they have darker haze around them and have a pixelated look as well. Last time, on another WC 5855 that they also have, I changed the I/P board and got the correct DLM file to intialize the board. They say that one now works perfect but it cost me $700. for the board plus the cost of the DLM file. That takes quite a while to recover thru copy count. Also just copying on the machine has no issues nor using it as a printer.
I tried updating the DLM file on the machine to see what would happin but it didnt make any difference
Ive added a attachment for a look see.........

Any ideas.....I dont want to have to get a board!!
    Thanks

What would happen if you put the original board back in now that you have reseated connections and checked for intermitent connections like bad solder joints at the connector?

There have been a number of issues with this model that requires reseating connections between the scanner / DADF / IOT. It may just have been a poorly seated connector. Also, I have seen an intermittent problem on the 58xx that cause poor image quality with background randomly if the "auto background suppression" is turned ON. Strange enough, I turned this feature on for a customer once then was called back for intermittent background and poor CQ. Turning the feature off made it go away.

In copy mode it can be set on or off for each job in the image quality tab. To change the default setting you have to log on as the admin and in tools change the copy default settings. For scanning/email it has to be set via the web UI.
