Well im not sure about the print quality difference between the 2 maybe someone else can cover that aspect.A 7120 with just 8k pages printed is practically a new machine so its likely it wont need any servicing for a good while.7120 is a much newer model, has the latest xerox look and interface.7428 is faster both in printing and in booting up, where the 7120 takes like 5 mins to power on the 74** does it in less than 1 min.at 100k its likely to require more frequent servicing than the 7120, but 100k is still fairly neat for a 7428.i asume the 7428 does better quality, but like i said im not sure.Personally i would go for the 7120 for a general purpose office machine, newer model, probably supported longer with updates and fixes.

Having serviced both for years, I would say the 7428 will most likely be a more dependable machine over the 7120. As far as the 7428 being an older machine, the saying "they don't make them like they used to" comes to mind because I would rather have a 7428 over the 75xx or 78xx models that came out after it. My customers who have 74xx I see very infrequently. I have run into a lot of issues with 7120s such as breaking ADF hinges, faulty door switches, image processing units that go bad for no reason way before they reach end of life, software problems. On the 74xx side its usually just regular maintenance calls like replacing paper feed rollers or drum cartridge that wore out a little early.

i agree with Exok. The imaging units on the 7428 should be a lot cheaper. The drum cartridge is seperate from the developer unit. On the 7120 it is one unit so when you replace the drum you are also replacing the developer unit.
