While I have only worked on Riso duplicators, I do have a suggestion. However, please take it as possible nonsense as I've never worked with Ricoh based duplicators.
That being said though, it sounds like the drum on that machine is not at home position. On Riso duplicators at least the drum is not perfectly cylindrical, and if the drum is pulled out when it is not at home position damage can occur. As such, you may need to find a way to manually rotate the drum to home position before it can be released.
If you choose to take this course of action, I do have one warning that you need to be aware of. At least on Riso equipment, there are many sharp edges and strong springs that can harm someone who doesn't pay attention. So please be careful.

I will try to rotate manually - if i remember correctly is possible - and i wil let you know.
Of course i will be extremely careful.
