    Riso EZ570 not inking drums

    Hi everyone

This is my first post here. Hope you can help me with a problem I'm having.

We have a Riso EZ570 from 2005. Recently we've been having some problems with the drums fully inking. This is on happening on multipie drums (we've tried 3 so far). With the black drum the master isn't sticking to the screen any more because of a lack of ink by now. At first I thought it was the paper feed as it was causing more and more misfeeds, but as multiple drums now have the issue this seems to be our main problem.

    Has anyone encountered this before?

What I've tried in test mode:
    - the ink motor is spinning inside the drum (test no 882)
    - the drum moves correctly to position A and position B (no 881 & 892)
    - it is connected to the drum (no 819)
    - it starts the inking action (no 887) by removing the master and putting on a new master correctly. But no ink gets pushed through the screen.

I've tried many more thing but just can't get it to work. What am I missing?

    Many thanks,

    Olaf

For those interested and reading along:
I've managed to diagnose one problem. The shaft controlling the pressure roller had completely seized up.
I got it loosened now and the control for the pressure seems to be working a lot more smoothly.
Still not printing properly unfortunately, but it may just take a bit of time for the drums to start inking again.

Still open to more suggestions about how to get the machine working fully again.

Did the drum just start going dry or where they not used for a while?
If the pressure roller was not pushing on the drum then there is not enough force to push the ink out. I'm surprised that the machine didn't code if the pressure roller was not engaging.
Pull out the ink tube and open the panel in the middle of the shaft the tube goes. Shine a light in there and see how much ink is in the drum. There should be a nice bead of ink across the intersection of the doctor roller and the squeegee roller (squeegee roller should be covered in ink). If it looks good and you got the pressure working running it should ink it up. May take a hundred prints. You may need to also clean the screen and the drum body of the dried ink. Belt cleaner, mineral spirits, blanket wash, something like those. I think there are old posts about drum cleaning so I'm not going to rehash that topic. If you haven't get a service manual.

      Good luck.

Yes, it also took me while to figure out that the pressure roller was not working(I don't have that much experience) because there was no indication anywhere else.
Because it took us this long and we had to try making the machine work and tried to ink the drums when it wasn't pressured properly, some of the drums have dried up quite a bit and are now giving an ink overflow issue when we do start re-inking them. They are also pretty old and hadn't been used in a while when we got them, so they probably need to come apart for a good clean anyway.

Hope that the machine start working again soon and will keep you updated if we do find out more or run into new problems.
