[Jamming] Riso RP: Drum not recognized until you lean on it - where is the problem?

    Hello all,
Been an avid reader of copytechnet for over a decade, now finally have a headscratcher that is worth outsourcing.

We recently acquired ten drums for our old Riso RP3700. Two drums have the same problem: they can be loaded into the machine without issue, but are not recognized by the machine. If you press lightly on the front of the drum with your thumb, you can hear a relay click and the machine is ready to go. Letting go again repeats the problem.

It's clear that something is either loose or out of alignment, and trying to compare drums that work fine gives no hints. Strangely, I can't find any posts listing a similar issue.

    Any hints much appreciated!
    All the best,
    Chris

If pressing the drum causes the relay to click, the problem may be a weak sensor switch. Determine which relay or microswitch is being activated and check to see if it activates properly when the drum is inserted. If it is loose, you may need to adjust or secure it. You should also test the problem with different drums.
