    RZ 390 drum safety switch

I have an RZ 390 here that is showing a D01-528 (safety switch Off when drum inserted). The drum is not seated properly, but won't come out. This has also disabled the Master Roll section as well as the green position buttons for the drum and master sections. I have put it in Test Mode and tried to turn the safety switch On or Off and also tried locking and unlocking the drum, but no luck. I also tried to set the drum position, but no luck there either since the motor won't turn with the drum not really in or out. Is there any way to release this thing short of sheer force? I can get the front cover off, but can't really go much further since the drum is in the way. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi sscottsr, I had that problem last year (twice), and each time the technicians in my area had no suggestions because they had never encountered that problem. So, out of pure frustration I unscrewed the front of the tray/arm that the drum sits on. It is a good idea to have a 2nd person hold the drum while this is being done. With the front of the tray/arm out, the drum can be easily pulled out horizontally. No brute force required or damage to drum. Once the drum is out, screw in the front of the tray/arm, reinsert the drum as usual and you are ready to print again.

Thanks for the post. My problem is a little different now, though. I was taking off the front as Island Girl suggested, when I saw that if I lifted the front of the drum a little and tuned it a little to the side, I could get it unjammed and lift it out. I did this and returned everything to the home position and reinserted the drum. The machine behaves beautifully now except for when you hit "proof" or "start." It boots up fine, the clamp unit rotates, the main motor rotates, but when you hit "proof" or "start" the drum begins to rotate a little, but the clamp unit doesn't move and and a series of P01 errors shows up (specifically 521 and 524 which are B-position sensor errors). I pulled A and B sensors and tested them; they are functional and in test mode, the clamp unit will rotate both ways. Also, in test mode I can set the drum to home position, etc., but when I try to run it through a complete cycle, I get the same error codes again. Since something seems to not be where it should be, the drum can't be removed nor the master unit opened. Pressing the buttons to do so immediately triggers the same error codes. Anyone have any suggestions? I appreciate it.
