    RZ Ink RF

Just got 2 RZ 390s. Just found out the ink cartridges have RF tags.

What info do these communicate? I'm guessing to let the drum know it's in position yes/no.

    Anything else?

Specific information about that lot/batch of ink. The masters also have RF tags. Riso says it's to help the unit be consistance from tube to tube, roll to roll, in print quality.

I personally think that it the RF tags are also to keep the Z series units from using non-RISO supplies cause they'll throw an error code if the unit can't read the RF tag.

What's the best course of action if the RF fails? I've got a 3/4-full cartridge that won't work in either machines.

If the problem is the tag, your S.O.L. I have had a tube get damaged and stop working like you have. Check it for stress marks. The Z-type are just as pron to get air pockets like the others, so that's a possiblity too.

It is a common problem for one machine not to read rf tags and the other one does. If neither machine is reading it, then it is a bad rf tag which, unfortunately, is common and RISO is not very sympathetic to your plight!

Yes, very true- I have seen many ink tubes (GREEN is the worst, for some reason) that are still 1/4 to 1/2 full, yet they will not work, the machine insists that they are empty. Riso will not help or even acknowledge a problem, they only want to sell you new ink. Very Bad for their image- We have been moving away from Riso products because of this and other poor support from the mfg.
