    Newbie with an old GR3770

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum as well as to the world of digital duplicators. I just purchased an old GR3770 model along with 6 drums and I'm trying to get it back into shape. The machine was not used for awhile prior to my purchase so it's not working 100% yet and I'm assuming/hopeful this is just due to a little neglect.

My first question has to do with the drums. The prints i've been getting from the drums are very spotty and inconsistent. I think this might partially be due to a lack of ink (i've just ordered some so hopefully that'll help with my problems) Since they haven't been used in so many years, is there a procedure to cleaning that I should follow? I've been reading around and people seem to recommend DWD40 sprayed on then worked in with your fingers? The only drum that seems to have sufficient ink is the red one so I've been primarily trying to get things to work with it, but the quality of the prints is still rather splotchy. Also it seems to over run if that makes sense? and prints a bit extra on the prints. I've attached pictures of the prints to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

I'm also wondering if the pressure roller needs to be changed? the counter says its printed about 2million copies so I'm not sure if its at the end of its life? I'd be interested in trying to cleaning it, if i could get it out of there, so far i've just tried to clean it with a paper towel and get some ink off of it. I've attached a picture of the pressure roller too.

I've also attached some pictures of the drums, with the master peeled back from the drum incase thats useful for making a diagnosis.

Any help anyone could give would be a greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Your red drum looks ok, that happens sometimes. The other drums look dry. They need inked up or something has broken inside the drum so it won't ink up (pump, one-way gear).

    Good luck.

The screens will clog if they sit idle for any length of time, and it seems that citrus cleaner does the best job of cleaning the screens- remember that the wetter your rag, the better, and you do not need to scrub, just gently dab the solvent onto the drum screen, allow to soak for a minute, and wipe off.

(You will want to remove the master before wetting the screen)
