    Risograph gr 3770 problem

I found a lovely riso gr 3770 on Kijiji and today I went to visit it at the UPS store. The manager demontrated a problem with what he thinks is the output tray. When you scan something and make a master image, then press 'Test print', the paper comes out fine through the output tray but without any image on it. Then the screen says there was a paper jam. So I press reset, try again, and the same thing happens. Occasionally, the paper comes out with a little crimp in it. But still no image. I tried about 20 times.

Does anyone know what the problem could be and if its fixable? I'd like some advise on what to look at.

I have read some more on this forum, and I think that the ink drums are dirty. So the main problem in that the screen is always saying that there is a paperjam all the time.

It probably needs to be retimed. Be sure that the pressure roller is coming up as well. (you can see it looking into the exit)

Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

Thank you I will be sure to look for the pressure roller, but how do I retime a risograph ? I am not very knowledgable on risographs yet..

I am getting this image when I get a jam. Its an image of the printer, and it flashes the door opening with two circles like this. I checked the opening where the paper comes out, and it appears as thought the pressure roller is not coming up to touch the drum and then the paper slowly floats out and lands sideways or just stays on the inside. The pressure roller itself looks fine, but it just doesn't come up to touch the drum. What should I do to fix this?

Like rrodgers said it could be the timing of the unit or maybe impression roller solenoid or the hook assembly with the solenoid. We can give suggestions, but you got to do your own homework. Get a tech manual & part manual. Look at older posts on here for ideas, but please understand something about the GRs, they work great unit something important breaks, lots of GR parts are no longer available. RISO stopped making the GR 10 years ago. I hope this helps you. Good luck.

Thanks! I think I discovered the problem or at least ANOTHER problem.. there is a transparent plastic film over the feeder slot that has a bad wrinkle in it on the left corner and touches where the paper slides in, perhaps that is causing a problem for the machine?? Should I just take it off? Or do I need it replaced?

I am looking for some manuals! Let me know if you know where I can find some...

                  Re: Risograph gr 3770 problem

Um, don't remove the plastic film - it is an important part of the machine's paper feed timing system, if you must have this machine try to watch the paper feed in and see if it actually interferes with that, and if so then take action.
Also, you might try resetting the operational memory by holding down the reset key while turning the machine on, and holding it down until the motor sounds get quieter. Bad data in the operational memory can cause all sorts of undesirable output. (Test mode drum inking mode might help out too if you know how to get to it, otherwise a trained tech can do that easily.)
On the other hand, while the GR line was an impressive workhorse of the Riso based duplicators years ago, and if you can find a low mileage GR that's priced reasonably and works perfectly you will have a gem, any one that doesn't work perfectly is probably not worth your time as there are no parts available for the machine and there hasn't been any for quite some time. If you go back through the archives here, there are some really great tips on how to get additional life from a failing GR and those might help you out, but those only work for any decent amount of time if you originally had one that worked properly.
