    RISO Advice needed

    Hello to all.

I have been reading very informative posts about the Riso duplicators, so I know this is the right place to ask

We are a small print shop in Macedonia and we are interested in purchasing a used Riso duplicator. We have never used one before. It can be one color, size A/4 or A/3.

We would mainly like to use it for printing on NCR paper.

Can anyone please tell me what model would be suitable best for this type of paper (from what I can see there are many different models).

Does the NCR paper need to be a special brand or type? Because here we use only the 2nd copy (not the set of 3 sheets), and it comes in larger sheets then we cut it to A/4 or A/3.

Do the Riso printers need to print everyday? Can the ink dry up on the drum? When we get the machine what spare parts should we have in reserve?

I thank you all in advance for you're help.

    Best regards,
    Eshko.

    Re: RISO Advice needed

I've seen NCR run on RA, GR, TR, CR, FR, RP, RN and RZ's...Everything before the Z line is discontinued. The Z line is very user and technician friendly.

Riso's are designed to run everyday, sitting for a week or month causes problems to arise. All Riso's will run NCR but there are brands of NCR paper that run better. You'd just have to find one in your area that work best and stick with it. Even if something else is "on sale" that month. Switching brands can cause problems (i.e. you get what you pay for).

You will get a small rub mark on the NCR paper where the feed tires pick up the NCR. It will be on every sheet of NCR but will clean off after running a few sheets of white paper. I'd recommend having a spare set of feed rollers and separator pads because the powder will transfer to these. 2-part NCR will have one less page than 3-part so you have that going for you!

    Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for that piece of information dear 20gauge. I was about to start a thread along similar line. I have customer who want my advice on which model or type of Riso to buy. They have been using the RA and GR series....GR3750 and now the want to upgrade to something 'better'. I am not much of an expert on these machines, though I occasionally work on them; in fact I am beginning to pay more attention to servicing them,....courtesy of this customer who has a lot of faith in my tech-ability. The customer currently has 4 gr3750s and they are quite a busy organization, They can only afford the second hand Risos which are here in plenty. I see all the models you listed above available here. Which one should I recommend for them? and also 'for my own self'... since I will be the one to do the servicing? i don't want the model which will give us much of a hard time.
Iowatec and other gurus say something.

Id try to stay away from the RP line, great when they are working, a pain to work on when broken.
See if you can find a RZ. The copy quality is not as good as the GR 3750, but not bad unless you can get a RZ9 full 600dpi not the Digital 600 dpi of RZ3 & 5.
          Good luck.
