GR3750 won't accept A4 drum

I normally use my GR3750 with A3 drums. tried to switch A4 in an machine tells me I am trying to insert wrong drum size. Do i need to instruct the machine to accept the drum somehow, or is it a case that A4 won't go in an A3 machine (though the user guide seems to indicate it should). Thanks for any help.

Place the A3 and the A4 drum side-by-side. If there is a difference in length, the A4 drum will not work, it is too short and meant for a GR1700 style machine. There was (I think) an A4 drum where the A4 would run in a portrait orientation, the drums were the same length when inserted into the machine, but the drum screen was blocked for A4 prints only- it was as if there was only half of the drum being used.
