How hard is it to adjust the Doctor setting on a GR drum? is this something we can do without a tech coming out? I have a vast mechanical ability .. but new to these drums ... please off us your thoughts or the how to about going at this project. Thanks in advance.

One does not need or want to adjust it if you can help it. Why do you think you need toa adjust it? If you're screwdrive handy and don't mind getting ink on your hands, it is all in the GR service manual, get one from paul @ Justmanuals.com.
Good luck. -
Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
Ok thank you. One more question. I have outdated ink in the drum now ... if I insert a fresh tube how many pages will I have to run to clear out the outdated ink and hit the fresh? or what is the best way to do this?Comment

Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
I would search google after "GR 3750 manual" you can get it for free on the RISO website and don't need to pay on obscure pirate-sites for it.Comment

If you can't locate it on the Riso site, I have a copy - pm and I'll send it to you.Comment

Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
I'd guess at least a ream of 11x17 with full fill except the top/lead edge inch or two. Is the old ink causing problems?Comment

Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
Yes I believe it is an ink issue ... the ink has the old dating system on the tubes .. I read some place about running a confidential to help the old ink get out and the new in ... is this correct?Comment

Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
What exactly is the machine doing that makes it look like the ink is bad?Comment

Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
A confidential will not help. It will not let any ink through. If you need to flush bad ink out of the drum so that it is replenished with good, you need almost the exact opposite of a confidential.

Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
Could you upload a picture of the smears? There are a number of different things that can cause print quality defects, my technical definition of smears might be very different than yours, and I'd rather not tell you to do the wrong thing.Comment

Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
Thank you again for your reply .. I am sorry for my delay in getting back to you I was away from internet access for a complete day. I do not have a picture at this time.. let me go into a little more detail. The copies come out fine .. no problem with detail of print ... but after they sit even over night .. if you handle them ink will smudge ..I guess I shouldn't have used the term smear .. it is not that the ink is wet in nature .. but if you run your fingers across the copy if will smudge like the day when we used carbon paper .. also, my new ink just got here while I was out of town .. how many reams of paper will I have to run to get the old ink out and new ink printing? is there a way so I don't have to waste paper?Comment

Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
Wasting paper is the easiest and cleanest. Otherwise you have remove the drum body and clean out the old ink by hand from the squeegee unit and inside the drum body. The GR drums are not that difficult to disassemble, just very messy on the inside to flush out the ink.Comment

Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
What do you think it will take to get to the new ink .. one ream or more?Comment
-
Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
I've never done it that way before, but I've seen threads here a while back where other people have done that. I seem to remember they claimed a ream or two of paper would do, but I'm not sure.Comment

Re: Help with adjusting Doctor setting GR 3750 Drum
Why are you so sure that it is a ink problem? You can use old ink without problems as long as it is not "falling apart", drying in ore something like that.
You wrote "Drying time is one .. seems no matter how light the ink is on we are still getting smears" this sounds more like wrong paper?
I would try another type of paper first.Comment
