    Risograph GR (&TR1510) models

    hello,

i hope this question isn't too novice. i'm looking for a Risograph, and have come across a couple for sale from the GR and TR line. all of the models i was looking at are listed here:

however, when i look at the specs, i have a hard time understanding what the differences in the models are. aside from the image area, and resolution on the GR3700, i'm curious what one looks for to distinguish these models, and make a decision on which to buy? for instance, a GR1750 seems very similar to GR2710. and i can't understand why a GR3700 seems to have better specs than a GR3750, when the 50 is a higher model number and considered the "flagship" model.

i'm guessing choosing the right model depends a lot on what one would plan to use it for. personally, i'm planning to make small run books and booklets, mainly for my own use and maybe to sell in the future.

any information would be appreciated greatly. and any insights into how one may price these would be great too!

thanks so much for the help. best.

All of the models listed on that site are well over 10-15 years old, so in case something breaks or you need some service you may be out of luck (unless that company is offering you service/parts...)

The 3770 is the best in the GR series and I think the only one on that site that prints at 600 dpi. Both the 3770 and the 3750 would also be the only that could print tabloid/A3 size, where I think the lower GR's and the CR/TR's are all either 8.5" x 11" or 8.5" x 14". Extra colour drums are also more common for the GR series, don't think I've ever seen a CR or TR drum for sale on ebay or anywhere... if you're trying to choose from one of these you should go for the 3770.

gillje, thanks very much for your perspective. there's a GR3750 in my area for sale, no 3700 though. it sounds like it's been very well maintained by the person selling the 3750, but i doubt he could support me with spare components later. i saw someone giving away a 3750 on these forums years ago for parts, but i'm guessing that's a pretty uncommon occurrence.

the main issue for me with the GR3750 is the price. the 3750 would cost me 1500$, compared to a 2710 i can also get for 800$, i'm not sure my purposes warrants nearly double the cost.

i guess i'll keep thinking and see if anything else pops-up in the meantime. if you, or anyone, has more thoughts, i'd greatly appreciate them.

Unless it's in incredible condition, includes a rip or a bunch of spare drums, I wouldn't go for a gr3750 for $1500. I think you could find a used lower end EZ or RZ in that price range, riso's that you could still find parts & service for.

$1500 for any GR is a rip off. Yes GRs run great, but they are dinosaurs. If the thermal print head goes bad or a board or several other parts break, it's a very expensive boat anchor at that price. Just my two cents.

thanks jermyth and gillje! i think i'll start looking around for a newer model and see what comes up. do either of you have a maximum you'd say a GR3750 is worth? also, what would be considered a "low" meter and master count? i can do some more searching for this info if i'm being too lazy...

              I wouldn't put my money on a GR,RA,RC,TR,CR,FR,RN,RP,V8,HC.
series they are long gone, discontinued by RISO.
if it goes bad say goodbye to your investment.
this is a list from riso site

              Discontinued list JULY 2012

I could get support on the RZ,EZ,MZ and Comcolor Series.
