Setting SC7700 RIP with Riso GR3770

Hello all, and thanks for this forum, I found a lot of resources for my new (old) Riso GR3770.

I still have a problem to print from my computer via the SC7700 Rip.
I can't get my computer to see the rip. It's connected to the computer via ethernet.
I've tried with windows vista / XP / Mac (10.6) / Win98 in a virtual machine and none of these worked..
I can print a test page from the SC7700 so I have the IP of the rip (which is the default one: 128.1.0.64).
I tried to add it with this IP, and the right ppd / .inf but still can't get it to work. I also tried to install riso drivers on XP, but the setup doesn't even run.
Next step is to find a very old computer with Win98 but it's pretty hard to find nowadays, but I've seen some threads saying it's working with XP..

Do you guys have any idea on this? I'm getting pretty desperate with that! Am I doing something wrong?

I have only set these up using the Riso Console software that comes with the CD, it takes you step-by-step through the setup.


Are you able to ping the SC7700 from your computer?

I just did this a couple of days ago. I think I can help you, I will reply this afternoon. I can send you the drivers for XP by mail.
And the RISO console program to adjust The settings of the RIP.

@ddude: I get no response when I ping the IP of the SC7700, and computer doesn't find the host neither when I ping the printer name I got from the test page (SC7700)..

Ok, I will try to remember everything and to translate the hints we got from our previous GR-owner. Sorry if the translation of the Windows terms is wrong, I hope you will understand anyway. I added the RISO Console program and all the drivers we have. I don't know anymore if we installed the Windows 2000 or the Windows NT drivers... I also added the description in German, in case this might help.
(Also, if I wrote something wrong please correct me - I haven't used Windows for many years until now...)

After changing the network settings you can install the drivers and the PC should recognize the RIP as a network printer.

Anyway, good luck!

1. If the RIP-settings are not default, then you can reset the machine by pushing STOP + FUNCTION while turning the RIP on and holding tose two buttons for one minute. After two beeps the RIP will set itself to default.


2. You need to change the network settings of the PC to

- IP: 128.1.0.65
- Sub Net Mask: 255.255.0.0

(> System Settings > Network > right click on "LAN" > "Properties" > "TCP/IP" > Properties)

Change the name of the Workgroup to WORKGROUP
(System settings > System > Computername > "Change"

3. Reboot the PC > the RIP should be visible now under "network connections"

4. Start the program "RISO CONSOLE"
Click "Add Printer"
Click IP of the Printer (128.1.0.64)
Location ID = SC7700 (or SC7700b)

Now you should be able to use it using these network settings.

If you have different network settings in a Local Network, you can change them in the RISO Console.
(But it might be a problem with a router because it assigns dynamic IPs to the PCs - this is why we can't use the internet with our XP-PC. But it should be possible to assign static IPs with a router)

5. Change the Network settings of the RIP for use in a LAN:
RISO Console: Control --> Communication Settings
Change the IP adresses to the IP adress you want to assign to your PC:

- IP: ...
- Subnetzmaske (SubNetmask): ...
- Workgroup: ...

Click the green arrow (SAVE!)

Close RISO Console

6. Turn RIP off and on again

7. Change the network settings of the PC to the desired settings (the ones you told the RIP before)

8. Reboot PC

9. Start RISO Console
(It will not find the RIP now because of the changed settings = normal)

10. Click the first button from the left (Printers)

- Mark the line IP 128.1.0.64

- "Remove Printer" in the lower button line

- Close RISO Console

It finally worked!
I was missing the first part of what you sent..
I didn't succeed to install it on a computer with XP though (I'm guessing I have some issue with it that has nothing to do with the printer), but on my mac, on a virtual machine (which is even better after all).

I've been trying to do this for weeks, thanks a lot again!!

Hello my name is Ivan and i really need help connecting the Riso gr3770 37 pin to SC7700. So i dont have a cable and i wish to make one, the 36 pin plug that goes to the SC7700 is is easy to find and i will wire it directly to the 37 pins in the Riso but i need wiring diagram for those pins. If anybody has such a cable could you please test it and let me know how the pins in the cable are connected?. thank you so very much for any help

If you are able to get an interface card for the 3770, and Riso computer interface, it will only work with a version of Mac OS X that supports appletalk (10.5 was last version). I recommend using an old Windows XP laptop with your Riso. You can then use a free screen sharing app like TeamViewer to send print jobs to Riso/ share files from Mac OS X 10.12 to Windows XP. That way you don't have to run back and forth from your computers to print

thanks for the informations but when I do step by step it work until add printer and at this point my PC doesn't see the SC7700 and I reset the machine like you say to do. Do you have any idea why ?
