    [Misc] Riso RZ390 drum/ink issue

My RZ390 signals a drum error and that a new ink cartridge is needed and is locked out even when the cartridge is new. Changed to a second new cartridge and it ran a handful of copies with the same result. Operates normally with the other color drums.

If you fiddle with it a bit - unlocking and locking in the ink cartridge it may run a few more copies buts goes into showing a drum error and needing a new cartridge. Noticed that he copper colored printed circuit on the cartridge end is abraded thru to the plastic underneath at both contact points, the other drums are not. Am using genuine Riso inks 100% of the time. Could sure use some help! Thanks

After locking the ink in place does the drum rotate for a bit? there is a siv in the ink pipe that can get blocked causing no ink to flow to the doctor roller you can remove and clean it, or the pump could be bad. You could try to force ink in by pushing the ink cartridge by hand to eliminate air in the tubes causing the pump to stall be carefull to push in the middle of the tube otherwise the pluger scews and runes the cartridge . Try to swop the circuits if it looks broken. Arrrrg dirty business!
    Whatever

The copper colored part is actually the antenna the chip on the cartridge uses to communicate with the machine. If it is damaged, it is likely the cartridge is unusable. If you got the ink directly from Riso or from an authorized Riso dealer see if you can get a warrantee replacement.

Thanks Alan, I did push the end piece of the ink cartridge and it did move in substantially, giving out a hiss of air each time but it ran a few copies and back to error message and lock out. Am thinking there must be a blockage in the ink line or persistent air bubble.... unless the ink detection system has failed.

Striping and checking the parts is a dirty business. If you are not a sure how to do that get a riso tech to sort it for you.
