mfc8890 dw wont duplex

When you try to duplex it will attempt to scan the 2nd side of the page and gets jammed in the scanner all other functions work well on machine. mfc8890 is two years old and only 4000 copies on machine.any ideas
before i dismantle adf

I think you better just go ahead and dismantle the ADF and find the issue.

Same as all doc feeders really. Just look for damaged mylars, sticky turn around guides. To try and make it easier, keep one of the jammed documents and look on the edge of the document for a mark where the paper may have hit something.
