    Brother HL-5240

The Brother HL-5240 was making a clicking noise when I first looked at it, now it isn't. When a job is sent to it it used to make the clicking sound and then will read that there is no paper in the paper tray. Now it does the same thing but instead of a clicking sound it just runs before saying the same thing. I was wondering what could be causing it to say there is no paper in the tray when there is? Any help appreciated, thank you.

Your pick up roller could be dirty or just plain worn out.

Clean or replace your pickup/feed roller in the cassette.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

check the paper tray. on the left side of it (on most models) there should be a tension spring. attaches to a white piece of plastic.

            Clean the roller.

If this doesn't solve your problem.

            Replace your feed roller assembly.

Last option would be you have a broken sensor.
