    brother HL5470DW

i dont normally work on small printers of any kind. this machine is in a office where the customer just bought a new canon copier from us. so i have the task of fixing this printer as a thank you for buying a new machine. the only problem that it has is the hen printing checks from the tray #1 the check always jams the last 1/3rd of the check. it will print envelopes and regular paper fine. they have the same printer using the same program and it will print the checks fine. any ideas as why it wont print checks normally? hopefully i can get it fixed for them.

Have you matched the paper to see that the checks are the exact same size as the Letter paper?

Is the image on the checks where it's supposed to be or is it off kilter?

I can't think of anything, other than maybe the checks aren't picking up as well as paper & env. Did you try running it through the bypass? Or maybe that's where you were running them through.

And it will print a check onto a normal piece of paper but not onto the check forms?

the image on the check is spot on. yes i am using the fold down tray, would that be like a tray 1 on a hp 4250? or is that just a bypass tray? yes it does print the checks perfect if you use a plain piece of paper. the checks are regular paper size. 8 1/2 x 11

What software are you using to print the cheques?
You could try changing the software print driver paper orientation from landscape to portrait.
