        SERVICE SUPPORT TOOL:
The SST System Software file is for use with the Service Support Tool (SST), and the
USB System Software is for use with a USB Flash Drive.

        USB System Software

Flashing via a USB Flash Drive has been available previously for some models. This file format does not
change the scope of the models which allow this flashing. However, this file format does streamline the
process in preparing the USB Flash Drive.
        • The size of the file will be approximately 30-40% smaller than the .exe because all language and RUI
language files other than English have been eliminated.
        • When extracting the USB file, it will automatically be placed in the following directory: C:\Canon File
Folder\SST System Software Folder\USB Files. The File can be moved directly to the USB Flash
Drive using standard Windows functions. No other preparation is required.
        • Multiple System Software versions can be placed on a USA Flash Drive. (Note that this depends on the
USB memory size and the size of the specific System Software.)

        SST System Software
Preparing System Software files for the Service Support Tool
        1. Download the series model file.
        2. Execute the series model file. This will place the file in the following location: “C:\Canon File
Folder\SST Service Support Tool Folder\SST Files”.
        3. Start the Service Support Tool (SST) and select “Register Firmware”.
        4. Right click the C: folder on the list and browse to the following location: “C:\Canon File
        Folder\SST Service Support Tool Folder\SST Files\ Folder>Model of Printer.
        5. Click the search button and the Service Support Tool (SST) will search that folder for the
series model system software and propagate in the right of the SST screen.
        6. Click the “Register” button to install the series model system software.
        7. As the software is installing, the progress bar moves across the SST and OK is displayed on
the right of the file installed.

Loading System Software to the USB Stick

        1. Download the USB System Software of the series machine from the Canon eSupport Website.
        2. Click the Executable file and the file will extract to the following location: “C:\Canon File
        Folder\SST System Software Folder\USB Files”.
        3. Open the folder to show the Series folder and 3 HD-Format files.
        4. Copy the series folder and 3 HD-Format files to the USB stick and the USB stick is ready for
        flashing the specific series model.
        5. Turn on the copier by holding the 2 & 8 keys to place the specific series model to Service
        Mode.
        6. When Download Mode is displayed on the control panel LCD display, insert the USB stick into
the USB slot of the series model.
        7. When the menu is displayed, follow the instructions indicated.

Good info, but unless I am even more wrong than usual, that series cannot be done with USB.

Question is, are you really trying to format the hard drive AND install the latest firmware (requires SST) - or just clear and initilize the user data and settings areas (does not require SST)?

You would need a crossover cable in order to connect to the 4570/3570/2870.
