    4015-4014 formatter questions

They have the same part number, so how can I use a used 4014 formatter in a 4015, or vice versa?
I guess a better question is, what exactly determines what makes it a 4014 or 4015 formatter? Is there someway, through programming or flashing, to switch between the two models?

If I remember correctly when you replace the formatter or dc controller, data is written from one board to the other(can't replace both formatter and dc controller at same time because of this). check service manual , power off disconnect printer from network or pc, replace formatter , power on printer wait at least 5 minutes (do not do anything on printer, nothing shows in display like updating ) then power cycle printer. I usually wait at least 10 min to be safe as again there usually is no indication on printer screen.

Using a used P4014 formatter on a P4015 will downgrade the machine to P4014 (slower). Don't do it. If you do, and it does, as far as I know, there is no fix for it.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

contact hp support, they can create a multi-byte file with correct model number and s/n for printer , then you just ftp the printer and drag and drop multi-byte file . hp may require proof of purchase of printer.

I did alot of research on this. That file from hp is very hard to get. A new one formatter is blank and will take on the model indicated by DC controller. A used board will control model # and out ranks DC controller. During this process we had several 4014 boards that we were told were 4015 boards. The machines all tested as 4014 and when we installed 4015 boards the machines went to 4015. So the machine is not stuck downgraded
