If you are using generic toners the MFP does not recognize it as an OEM toner, clean the area where the toner chip is located and it could clear the ??

It's a failure for the machine to read the chip on top of the cartridge. Sometimes I've seen that happen when you first turn it on. open and shut the door , and it goes away, you have to watch refills and compatables

is there a way if i intentionally want to make some toners appear as (?) in the control panel screen? sorry to ask this for these models are very old but are still reliable and finding toners is a bit hard and there are times that i need to find ways to make it print.

I've seen this happen because there was a small amount of excess adhesive on the cartridge chip. Removing the excess fixed the problem. Sometimes just reseating the cartridge will fix the problem.

You can put tape over the chip on the toner cartridge, so the chip reader can't read the toner cartridge.
