HP color laser jet 2840 blanks. rotary drum not stopping and locking at the correct s

blank copies. if you open the cover and try to remove toner, the developer drum is easy to turn. if you push it either way, it locks but then you cant remove the toners. i checked for a sticking solenoid. then replaced the drum rotary drive assembly that includes the solenoid. same thing. it acts like the alignment or setting of the drum to the shaft with the notches for the stop position are out of sink. is there a procedure to calibrate that stop position? or alignment marks if i disassemble it?? any help would be greatly appreciated. have a nice day, Jim

after looking thru both manuals the procedure looks the same. Its been a while since I did one of those but I think the difference between the 2 is the 2840 has a ADF and scanner, just google hp color laser jet 2840 manual and you should be able to find the manual. If I remember correctly if the timing marks are off a tooth or two you can pry the shaft up and move the carosel so they line up correctly, just be carful you don't snap a tooth or bend the shaft, it can save you a lot of time.

yea, i tried to gently pry it up after having the drive unit out and back in like 4 times. then relized that the shaft is on a metal bracket that also holds the developer drum and figured it was futile to spread them. also, that i would obviously need to "jump" both sides. what a royal pain. these are the calls you wish they didnt accept the estamate and you didnt order that part. i wonder how it would have gotten out of sink if that is what happened?

shoot. i mean SHOOT. well, after spending half the day on that thing, i am an expert. i wasnt sure were exactly to look, prior to spending 4 more hours with my new love. the customers printer. but now after all that, and trying to cut corners and then doing a complete disassembly to find out wtf, i can read this bulletin and say, why yes, this will save you so much time. i wish i had seen it before i went. thank you still so now that i know what and where the marks are, i can in the future make a quick observation and know if its out of sink and how to reset it without taking it out. i do really appreciate your help and the article link. i hope you have a nice day. thank you, Jim

wow, that was a pain. thank you so much for the info. i removed the carasel but left the top scanner unit on. but didnt have enough room to do it right. then i reassembled it and the drum unit wouldn't go in. i forced it, (no lunch and just exasperated) and broke the drum shutter off. no worries, its not mine. then i got the right side to print. i regretfully re disassembled the POS, but this time took the whole top off. then i was able to see the tabs of the service diagram about the lower rear plastic things to go in properly. what a pain. but i got it set, and then realized that there are timing marks for both the left AND right side. so instead of guessing, i got them all set. then reassembled it and whol-la, darn thing printed. thank you very much. there was another post that a bulletin describes how to flex the unit to adjust the settings. but after having it apart, i could do that with confidence. so after years of intimidation of the darn rotary drum, i know how to remove it and set it up correctly. dont know if i want to do it again, but i could. have a great day and thank you for the help. Jim
