Hp CM6040 yellow and black lines on scans to email

I've got a HP CM6040 that occasionally puts a yellow or black line across scanned documents. Never, as far as I now, does the line show in any other color. Also, not seen on copies or original prints. I have seen the examples but have never witnessed it. It supposedly will happen from ADF glass and flatbed glass. Consumables are in good shape. I've cleaned both glasses on top and underneath glass. An ideas.
    Thank you in advance.

Well, I've never seen this on any HP machine, but I did see something like this on some other stuff I've worked on, so hopefully this will help.
Anyway, make sure all the mirrors in the scanner cavity are clean, and give the CCD/lens assembly a good blast of air. Maybe you can try playing around with the scan resolution too.
It's the weirdest thing how dust will sometimes only show up in certain color bands and resolutions. I beat my brains out on that problem a while back.
Also you might see if they can change the orientation of their originals, as scanners have high enough resolution anymore that sometimes they will pick up scan lines in digitally produced originals. But that is an insane long shot, so don't put a lot of effort into it.
Unfortunately, if none of the preceding works, it is likely the CCD is starting to give up. I've never had to replace one on that model, so I don't know if it possible to pull just the CCD unit out of that machine without wrecking the adjustments. And I know you can't order just the CCD assembly from HP. So you're likely going to need to replace the entire scanning unit if cleaning it doesn't work. Sorry.

i had one putting yellow on copies and scan to email. not a definitive line, shadowing yellow on edge . there was yellowish/brownish grease on a mirror. couldn't get to the mirror without taking the ccd lens off.

scribed the lens position with a knife tip, took it apart, cleaned, re-installed, and worked great.

fast forward 6 months, user changed the yellow toner and the problem came back.

not wanting to take another chance on the ccd, i tried reducing the yellow toner density to it's lowest level. it worked. why or how, i don't know.

note the problem only occured on color copy or scan, b & w was fine.

I would be be cautious with the toner density. I would be more inclined to go with Iowatech and replace the scanning unit.
