    working on this one. dont have a manual yet
    Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

        If you have the service manual it should be in there. it should be in: troubleshooting > service mode functions > service menu. If you have technical reference guide, field service handbook, installation or user manual, you wont have it.

        My problem is it's a relatively new machine and I have to go through 2 people in purchasing to get the manual ordered. Parts for orders get priority, so manuals tend to get pushed to bottom of the list.

            I checked my list of pin codes and this is a model I haven't verified yet.

            HOWEVER...as a general rule..here's how you can figure out the code for any of the hp models

            you will need a configuration sheet from the printer.
            check it for the month manufactured 01 equals jan etc..

            these are your first two digits.
            the next four digits are the model of the printer aka "6040" and the last two digits are the year it was made.

            This rule seems to work just about all the time.
            so your code will probably be XX604008 where XX is the month.

            when I'm uncertain of the month I would start with april and work your way up as I have yet to find any that were released in jan through March.
            Hope this helps you out. If you Verify the code please let em know so I can add it to my list.

                Just seen some of these today and I had a look at the service mode.

                All I could see were various counters, no adjustments like image registration etc, is there some extra service mode?

                  Normally you will not find that sort of adjustment in the service menu.
                  on most HP products the service menu is only going to have your counters for the maintenance kits, serial number, and clearing the event logs.

                  for image registration, check in the print quality, or device configuration menus.

                  It changes by model some where things are arranged but your best bet is to print a menu map from the information menu...and look there.

                        The service manual does not have the PIN for service mode. I got the following numbers off the ITC Forum (HP's), so I hope they work. Let us know after you try it.

                        CM6030 = 06603008

                        CM6040 = 04604008
