[Misc] HP P4015 Losing USB Connection in Mac Environment

We just installed 6 HP P4015 printers into a law office with mostly Mac workstations. All of the printers are direct connected via USB. The problem is after an unspecified amount of time, print jobs that are sent do not make it to the printer. The jobs hang in the print queue with "waiting to print". Only rebooting the 4015 resolves this issue. This is happening multiple times a day for each user and they are not happy. I have experienced the issue while one of the 4015s was in sleep mode. I woke it up thinking it was maybe a sleep mode issue, but it still just came to ready and never printed. After rebooting it printed fine. This office has 1 windows workstation and it does not have this problem. We have made sure the latest firmware is installed and the 4015 driver is being used. We have also tried using generic drivers to no avail. We installed a test HP 605 in place of one of the 4015 printers and it has not had any issues. Any help is appreciated!

Sounds like a software driver or spooler problem.

The following link might help for future reference.

Also go into network/USB connections and uncheck "Allow system to turn off this device to save power." The PC USB device driver will stay active an online, the printers will stay connected.

I just realised the thread O/S was Macintosh. The above is for Windows.
I won't delete the post; you may find it relevant for your Windows O/S customers.

Thanks. Yes it is a Mac environment. It seems to be some sort of compatibility issue between the 4015 and OS10. The 605 that we installed as a test has been fine. Leaves us scratching our heads.

I've had this happen also in windows environment. It always happened when it entered sleep mode. I was thinking that's where it lost connection.
I shut that off on the printer in settings. I haven't received a call back yet so...

As Wild Bill said, the first thing I would try is to get rid of power save mode.

Disabling sleep mode does not appear to be an option on the 4015. You can only go up to 4 hours max.
