    Hp M451n color

I have a m451n color with duplex. Machine will run 1 page just fine. Do multi first page comes out 3/4 ways and jams and second page is a the registration roller assy. Machine says jam open back cover. replaced feed roller and fuser assy. tried with bypass and same problems. I know it not a firmware up date. And it has only 25k on machine. any thought would be a big help.

I'd check paper size, make sure that's right, and then try paper thru the bypass that would eliminate a sticky solenoid. other than that I'd say registration switch sticking. You never said ---What did it ---exactly--- say on the display?

First, of course update the firmware, then:

Use below settings in resolving this frequent cleaning mode, misprint issues:

These settings need to be changed only in printer using ToolboxFX or EWS.

        * Do not change/modify any settings in printer drivers. Leave the printer drivers with default settings.

In System Tab and Paper Handling:
        Default Paper Size: Letter
        Default Paper Type: Plain
        Manual Feed: Off
        Tray 1 Size: Any Size
        Tray 1 Type: Any Type
        Tray 2 Size: Letter
        Tray 2 Type: Heavy 111-130g
        Tray 3 Size: Letter
        Tray 3 Type: Heavy 111-130g

        In Paper Out Handling:
        Select Specify Time and Action.
        Paper Out Time: 0 Seconds
        Paper Out Action: Override

In System Tab and Print Quality:
        Power-On Calibration: 60 Minutes
        Calibration Timing: 168 hours

Curious...Let me know if that works

a theory I always adhere to... First look at the $3 part... most of the time there lies the problem.

Just a little baffled. Didn't you replace the fuser and had the same problem? You removed a part from the old fuser and put it in the new fuser and it solved the problem? If you replaced the sensor from the old fuser to the new fuser, wouldn't the problem move to the new fuser? Anyhow the problem was fixed!

I replaced fuser and same problem. I toke a sensor from the old fuser and replaced it with the registration sensor in the machine since I didn't have a sensor. and now machine is up and running. fuser exit sensor and the registration sensor are the same part. I had this problem with another machine but customer didn't want to find problem.

I see there isn't a lot of parts available for this model, mostly major assemblies. Glad it worked out for you.

That's interesting. I know that a lot of techs would guess a board before a sensor. Or just keep throwing miscellaneous parts at it, shotgunning the thing. Especially, it being such a new machine. I remember a long time ago when I had needed a sensor for a sharp machine. I knew it was a sensor, because I had checked it with a meter. When I had ordered it, the other techs in the room were snickering. I could hear part of the conversation--that I was a rookie, and that I'd have to figure these sort of things out through experience, so they weren't going to tell me that it was the board and not the sensor. It ended up being the sensor.

                    Anyway, good job.
