email to scan issues - possible solution

I've had many issue with scan to email on different machines on different networks.

Often the solution is incorrect settings etc.. But if these are OK; then I've found the problem to be that often machines do not like any delay when sending an email - and authentication: requiring a user name and password for the SMTP server - can cause delays and thus the scan to email fails.

The solution is to use a SMTP service that does NOT require authentication. This could be the ISP SMTP server; or you can Google and find various services online. You have to pay a small charge - and you must register the email address the emails will be sent from.

I just HAD to post this here - I wasted DAYS before finding this solution!!!

In my (admittedly limited) experience, telnetting directly to the smtp server and trying to send an email that way is the first thing to do. I would have saved an entire day if I tried it earlier.
