HP M577 jams only when duplexing with 13.B2.DD (M552 or M553)

One of the other techs (has been a Xerox tech all his career and is just beginning to work on HP's) has been working on this problem. This M577 is located an hour away, so when I take over, I would like to be prepared. So here is what I know. Only jams when duplexing and paper exits (not stuck in machine) with blank second side when error occurs. He followed HP Control Panel Message Document for troubleshooting a 13.B2.DD error and replaced the Registration Assembly and DC Controller but didn't fix it. I don't actually know if he did any manual sensor tests, but it looks like they are limited. If you have seen this problem on an M577, or even an M552 or M553 I would appreciate any suggestions?

    Thanks

Don't know HPs by heart but I would start my check list with locating and testing (if possible) any clutch/solenoid involved in duplexing.

We have had these problems in the past with diffrent HP models.

i would try the autosense settings first.

Adjust paper types - plain - print mode, (extra light mode)

Also, serperation mode set to (alternate)

This was a fix for the m880, we havent had an issue since these settings have been changed. On the smaller devices, HP CP4525 the issue did lie with the solenoid but your first port of call should be the autosense settings.

Due to the disruption of COVID we apparently didn't get this resolved. Recently the customer informed us that the printer was still having the same problem with the false jam error when attempting to duplex. I went out and found that one of the foam bumpers (that HP loves to use) was deteriorating and the duplex diverter flap actuator was getting stuck. I replaced the Exit Assembly, aka Delivery Assembly, to fix it.

Interestingly, I happened to need to look at another M577 at this same site and found that the bumper was sticky on this one too. They just didn't know they had a problem because they never duplexed. You can get to the bumper after removing the fuser, so I put a small piece of electrical tape over the bumper to fix it (I just don't know how long that will last, especially since it is just above the fuser.)

Just to mention. Twice had clients with M553 and M555 that put heavy stuff on top of the printer causing the top to bow down. We had to adjust the printer frame. I guess every space on top can affect the duplex unit on top causing jams.
