faded page with new toner -- LJ2420

    Laserjet 2420

I was having print quality issues with a grey background and faint type.
So I bought a toner cartridge.
This is an original HP Q6511X. However, while still sealed, was several years old.

Using this, the background of the page is now clean, white, but the text is faint, like an almost empty cart, and very faint in bands 48mm apart.

Tried dialing up the toner density from default 3 to max 5, but not much improvement.

The service manual says of repetitive defects at 48 mm "the print cartridge might need to be replaced." Not very specific.

I saw elsewhere that faint text might be caused by a dirty transfer roller. (Second photo.) So I wiped that with a clean cotton cloth. No obvious improvement.

Might it be a bad electrical contact? Where exactly does the toner cart connect electrically?

Do I just have a bad cartridge, or is this likely a problem with the printer?

Thanks... hope that's the case, so I will order a new cart and try to return or get a refund for this one.

Drop that into dumpster. Time to move on.

Did you init the cart upon install?
Clean the optics... init the toner..
How many pages total on the unit?
Did you CLEAN the internals of the unit..
Frankly I could use more info.. page counts.. life on consumables.. service parts...
It's like pissing in the wind right now.

That is not OPC problem. Looking picture, I can see Magg Roller defect. The rings are dirty or gear on magg roller. So, just a change cartridge and it will work fine.
