HP color laser jet pro MFC M277dw can't print, expired cert.-check printer for errors

    Hello,
customer suddenly cant print. Mac screen displays "Expired certificate- Check the printer for errors"
i have the same model in shop on a PC and it works fine.

a google search lands at HP forums and gives all the usual stuff but didn't resolve the fault for those.
    uninstall the printer, reinstall. etc
do things on the web console pertaining to the IP address and checking or resetting the cert. others about the printers clock time vs the computers.
this printer is on a USB, so i don't think i can access the console? but there was mention that the HP WSD setup is where it might be causing the cert requirement. again, if it was on ethernet cable, and if it was a PC, i would just add printer with IP address. but i am not a mac expert so it takes me longer to remember and find my way around.

some said install the generic driver for printer and a second would be required for the scan.

has anyone run into this issue or have any tips on a resolution?

this is the link to the HP forum
HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M277dw Mac OS 15.1.1   Attempting to print generates the following message:  "Expired Certificate - Check the printer for errors" I have already: powered the printer off and on reset the printer at the printer removed and re-added the printer reinstalled drivers reset the...

any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you

    so to report.
apparently, this was on wifi. i was able to get a IP address and log into the web console. i didn't find what i needed there for a while.
so i connected a PC laptop with USB and wasn't able to print. so i connected the laptop to their router and added the printer to the PC and then it printed.

from there i went back into the mac computer and re entered web console under the IP address. was able to get to security under networking, and certificates.
there i was able to reconfigure the info. apparently, there is an arbitrary beginning and end date. not sure if that's set up by HP. but the date issued on, and expires on, hits the date and it stops. i reconfigured the ending date, which was for 10 years, but now i think it only went to 5 years.

then i reinstalled the printer and could print but only thru ethernet. not wifi like they had.

problem i might have created trying to find the fix, i had to connect it to the ethernet, and got flustered and deleted the several printers all under this name.
so after that, i cant get the scan utility to work. i tried everything. there are 2 scan apps, one i think is web basses, and requires a log in or register. since the customer left, i was only trying the one from the settings and printers and scanners. it just hangs and then "scanner reported an error. failed to open a connection to your device"

i am a PC wiz, not a mac expert by any means.

so, i recon i'll have to go back out and deal with fixing my bad for dumping the printers from that page.

it also never gave me a test page or test scan after loading the HP printer utility. nothing happened even though i hit the print and scan button a bunch f times. then it shows a "finish" or "exit" tab, but it never worked.

so i am just perplexed. and to believe that i somehow installed this thig a year ago at that office.

    UUUGGGGG!!!!

for some reason, likely because i am not a Mac expert, i tried everything under the sun. the only way i could get the scan to work, was to have a simultaneous connection from the printer with the USB and the Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi would print. USB would do both. but they have other wireless laptops that also need to print. and since the Mac had the USB-C and the Brother is USB B, i didn't think to connect up with the adaptor dongle. which i did try on the next visit.

and before this resetting uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, it would only print. and there was a USB cable connected to the printer and not to the computer.
i had set it up a year ago, so i don't know where the issue is, as they thought they had this mac for several years.

bottom line, its now connected to the Mac with both USB and wifi. if i unplug the USB, no scan.

      good ol Mac.
