Anyone seen this before? Machine says "unable to calibrate, remove paper from flatbad or document feeder". There is no paper, tried unplugging for awhile. Has OEM toners. Could one of the toners have a problem, or am I looking at transfer belt or board issues? On a side note, I have quite a few customers that use the aftermarket toners with no problems. I know HP has started using firmware upgrades to screw the customers (and us too) by making aftermarkets not work. I knew the newer models like the M479/M 454 and lower models had this, but using firmware updates on older models to make OEM a requirement is pretty shitty. That was about the only positive to these machines. Did HP pay off some politicians to make this legal? I remember decades ago they were sued and had to allow aftermarket, what happened with that? I also remember Kodak being sued for pretty much the same thing regarding their big copiers in the 90's and it was the nail in the coffin for them, they lost the lawsuit and went out of business. I know that's how they make their money by selling overpriced toners, but that's just ridiculous.

Re: Hp m477 Unable to Calibrate
Turn the machine off, lift the doc feeder and turn back on.
Do you see the lamp illuminate on the doc feeder in an attempt to read the white plate on the slit glass.
This machine has no way of knowing if the feeder is open or lowered, so tries to calibrate regardless. -
Re: Hp m477 Unable to Calibrate
I have mostly the printer version of this machine (M452) but I do have a few of these out there too. What have been your flatbed issues? First time I've run across that on these so far. Defective fusers failing early I see all the time, HP should be embarrassed about that, but no calibration issues. Lamp seems to be working, I wonder if it's a board issue? They don't make these easy to take apart, that's for sure.Comment
