It sounds like a dry bearing or something like that. Not a gear noise. As best I can tell it is in or around the tray. Customer said it happened all at once. Does it almost every time it pulls. Short of anyone having heard this before, I guess I will go back and start lube and clean.

HP 4700 chirps when feeding paper
I've never really had a problem with this machine, (had a problem with the 4200/4300 series machines with banging or clunking sounds, but not 4700's) so I thought someone else would have replied by now. Did you ever figure out what the problem was? If not, I'll try to do some additional investigation on it and see what I can find out for you.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!". -
I could tell it was coming from the paper tray, so I took the front off, and used a silicon oil and lubed all of the moving shafts and anything else that looked like it would squeak, and it seemed to make a difference. I will wait a few days to see if it comes back and change the rollers and finish cleaning. Thanks for the response. The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.
