First time poster, and while I'm not a copier tech, I am experienced with repairing all sorts of things, having worked in PC Repair, Professional Lighting & Sound, as a Sys/Netadmin, telecom, etc. I do all of my own electronics repair, and I fix pretty much everything I own (unless it makes more financial sense to hire a professional - although I don't always follow my own advice
).
I purchased a HP M750xh a few months ago on eBay, seller shipped it with the toner *inside* the printer(!), and it bounced around quite a bit during shipping, as you'd expect. It arrived with toner *everywhere*, the front control panel housing cracked, as did the top output tray - wound up getting a full refund (at least the included HP CE725A stand was fine). So far as I can tell, replacement parts are at least $100. I've yet to open it to inspect for any further damage, but likely anticipating some.
My question is, would it be generally worthwhile to open this thing up, try to clean it up and get it working? It may be a bit of an endeavor, but I'm fairly capable. The bigger question is, _is it worth it?_ So far, I have zero dollars into this thing, and they seem to sell for about $500 locally without the stand. Once fixed, I'd likely sell it, as my needs have changed and I now need something more like a new-ish/off-lease Bizhub or Xerox Copier.
So, thoughts, try to clean and refurbish, perhaps having to buy parts along the way; or cut my losses and junk it - and sell the HP CE725A for a little extra bonus cash?
Open to all ideas, but there's a poll up top as well!
