    HP m426 won't copy

Hey all, I have one of these with a very low meter, it's doing something weird I've never seen before. You can make ONE copy, doesn't matter if you use the feeder or the glass, but that's it. You go to make another copy and the light on the scanner doesn't come on and it will just sit there kinda locked up. Obviously there is no problem with the lamp or cables cause first copy always looks perfect. Afterwards, you have to turn it off and back on to get another copy. Prints fine. I tried the cold reset, no help. Any ideas?

How about printing from the computer or a usb stick, is it doing the same thing. Could be the fuser is not coming up to temp, may be bad or faulty fuser. Something to check, also check the error logs and see what it reports.

Prints fine from computer. If I unplug it and let it sit overnight, the next day will will copy property for awhile but after a bit of use it starts doing the same thing. It will just stop and cancel the copy job itself.

I've had this exact problem before on a M632 where it'll only copy one page and stops. I had to replace the whole document feeder as cleaning and checking every possible thing wrong didn't help.

I have seen where the ribbon cable that connects the feeder to the main board has caused problems, but not this problem. Why would it not copy from the glass? It will scan it original (or attempt to sometimes) and then just sit there for a minute and then self cancel. So, whether feeder or glass, it will sometimes just not copy. I'm wondering if it's a main board issue. Cold reset is no help.

What happens if you try to scan to a USB drive. I had a M521 with crazy behaviour. It turned out to be the wiring loom. So had to order the whole ADF unit.

Turns out it was the ribbon cable after all. Not sure which one, there are 3 that feed from the main board to the scanner section, but one of them had an issue.
