    Designjet 2500CP

    Hello, guys and gals!

I've got a customer with a 2500CP with several troubles.

First of all, the machine had a recurring error saying something like (it was not in english, so I'll translate it the best I can) "Verify the Cleaning Units", with the 3rd square blinking. I took out and in the cleaning unit in question several times with no avail.

The customer had lying around some used printheads and cleaning units (no new ones) so I replaced them (the ones in the machine were very very dirty with ink and some gooey substance - paper dust perhaps?). Apparently the cleaning error went away, but now it always fails when verifying the print system with an error code 020004 00000005 - which I think is related to the home position sensor/actuator on the machine.

But I checked the actuator and it seems to be in place, although my experience with this kind of machines is next to none - I'm a copier guy.

Anyone more experienced than me who already went though the loops I'm going through can give me some insight on this machine? I need to give a quote to the customer for a repair, but I have no idea of where to start.

    Thanks in advance!

Yeah, it's an old one. I have not had that problem that you have, but advice that I can offer is that on a plotter, you have to ask a lot of questions like how old, how much is it used, how long since the heads have been changed, ect, ect,. Check the belt carefully and if there is any signs of it being worn plan to change it. I have one now that was working when I took it down to clean it and then would not print. The cleaning and lube of the rails showed that the belt was worn and the travel is no longer smooth. If you took it apart to change the belt, quote at least 2, but maybe 3 hours to do it if you never have. Also just like on a small ink jet the encoder strip being clean is real important. I would quote the customer the cost of cleaning and belt if needed and let them know that you may have to take it that far just to give a good diagnostic on it. Look at all of the exposed tubes for air bubbles and if you see any plan on some set up heads to purge them. Look up the cost of what you think you may need to change and make sure the customer is on board before you waste time, and you may want to look on line for a good plotter parts supply house, and they may give better support than I do. There was a place in Texas, but I can not remember the name. I saved them on the shop computer. I have a 750 on my table at the shop right now and it looks to be about as old as the 2500, so if you have any other questions I will try to help.

Thanks for your feedback. I didn't reply sooner because there are a lot of things going on at the same time - I feel like an hamster on a wheel!

So, and once again forgive me my "noob-ness", the best bet is to go to the customer's location and give the machine a good cleaning and a good look-see to try and find out what's wrong.

      Cheers!

Your issue sounds like a faulty service station. From my research, they're all plastic and they tend to be a medium-high mortality item for this series of plotter.

It's behind the right-side access door. Check to be sure nothing's broken, the flag is intact, and it's aligned properly. Check cables. Replace if necessary.

Does any one know the error code 67-0010. If so I would appreciate it. I am at a customers right now and have no material on me.

That is a magenta print head error you can try cleaning the carriage contacts. Parts other then the belt are about nonexistent for this model, your best bet is to try to sell him a new plotter. IMHO its not worth putting any money in this model.
