    hp p2015dn

    Hello all
i am working on an hp p2015dn (i am not an hp tech, sharp mostly) and i have a problem with this one. The status log on the configuration page is giving me some codes like 49.0138, 49.2884, 79.000. Not sure what these mean if anything, but the problem is that when you try to print to it sometimes it works fine with no problems other times nothing will come out until you shut the machine off and back on. This printer is in a school and they are running windows and mac. Not to sure what to try....after turning it off and back on it will work for a while and they will have to do this 2 or 3 times a day depending on how much they are printing off that day....any ideas??? Thanks a bunch

Read through this and you will see of the problems this printer has.
Towards the bottom of the thread is the solution of baking the formatter board in an oven at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes.

This does work, I have done it twice and fixed both printers.

I do not think HP would recommend baking the formatter board .... Is this kinda like the old geek trick to put a hard drive in the freezer to get it to boot for data recovery? 50-50 chance it will work.

Well you know us in the Tri-Cities we like heat.

I have done this procedure to 2 formatter boards and fixed both.
When HP made the boards the soldering process was not hot enough.
So in time the solder joints became defective.

I have also used this method to fix Jetdirect 615n cards.

I know it seems strange but it does work.

Read the post I have provided to see more results.

HP is having a problem with their formatters on these machines. Its a problem with firmware chips, but the firmware is embedded and updating firmware only works 50% of the time and sometimes makes the problem worse. The formatters will always be the weakness on this machine even when you replace it. HP will not put this in the manual, nor will they give you a new one at no charge as they did at the beginning.

I've seen the following problems get fixed by replacing the formatter:

              Lock up at memory count
              False paper jam error
Won't come out of sleep mode
              Will not print from network
              Will not print from USB

You've indicated 49 errors and 70 errors. 49 errors are Communication or Critical Firmware errors. 70 error is Critical Hardware. Both of these errors are usually solved by: replace network card, replace firmware, and/or replace formatter. Make sure you keep the memory DIMM, because you can't run this machine on the network without them.

The part number you need is Q7805-69003 (or some derivative of it). We sell it on advance exchange for about $105, but you could google it and find it cheaper. Hope this helps you.
