I have a 4345 on the field and when receiving faxes sometimes shows lines.
when printing or copying its fine, i have replaced the fax modem card and still having the same problem.
if anyone has had the same problem any help will be apreciated.

I have read the theory for this machine and I believe fax data goes to the hard disk. The drive in that machine is a standard sata laptop drive. If you had a spare drive or if you purchased one to test with you could swap it and test, if it doesn't fix it you could always take the drive back!

You said it prints and copies fine. Does it copy fine from the ADF assembly?
If not you have a dirty ADF window.

If it does copy fine from the adf than send it a fax from your office and see if that is bad.
If the fax sent from your office is ok than someone else has the problem on their fax.

The image formation in this machine uses the same process and parts of the machine for printing, faxing and making copies.

The line isn't on sending faxes only received faxes so it can't be the ADF. Tried the firmware and fax board. No joy, keep everyone posted.

Rob is totally correct.

You have said that the lines are only on some RECEIVED faxes. This is THE OTHER END fax that has the problem, not yours mate!

The other end fax is sending faxes with lines because its scan glass is dirty. They probably dont know about it because it is most likely a dedicated fax machine that they dont copy on. They wouldnt know that pages being sent have lines.

Send a fax from your machine to another one. If it is clean, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.


How come you have been replacing boards & flashing firmware?? Have you done any basic fax theory/training before?

I have had basic fax training but this is not from thr other end fax i had my boss send me a 5 page fax and three came out fine two of them had lines on the them, and i actually had other people fax me the same amount of pages and three of them had lines. I know for a fact that is not the scanner or the adf.

Line noise maybe? Make sure its on a dedicated outlet and phone line sounds clean. If you can, bring it into shop and runs tests with your phone lines.

Does the same problem occur when printing lots of reports from the control panel? Maybe cartridge going bad. Rule out image problem then check line voltage and phone line. Once you've ruled all of that out:

1. fax modem (which you've already tried)
2. firmware (which you've tried)
3. Formatter

Hey, is the fax line the same # as the dsl modem's line? If so, silly question: DOES IT HAVE A DSL FILTER INSTALLED?
Sounds like every time data flows on the dsl modem the hp rx's lines!!
You're lucky, other brands i.e. Samsung won't work at all.

Try throwing a DSL filter on the line(can't harm it) before dragging it all the way back to the shop!!! Gas ain't cheap!!

Very much at all. I've the same issue on several deployed machines. Flashed firmware to current versions.....no joy.

The issue is VOIP and how less and less true Analog lines are being used every day. Some of the older machines and most Brothers use a hardware modem, and not a host-based modem, so they work better.

Good luck - you might end up having to replace that monster.

Have you thought about utilizing the "fax to email" function instead?
