Just a followup for the thread info.....

I have this exact problem, I have experimented with the cartridges, and if all cartridges are removed, only the last one cannot be inserted as the carousel does not line up correctly (regardless of which color it is, as long as it is the last one being installed).

I can tell you however, that this has only happened after I attempted to use a non-oem cartridge which had a totally jacked up roller gear thing, which was super hard to turn. It was so hard to turn that it made the teeth grind when it was attempting to turn the gear when I installed the cartridge. I exchanged that one for another (non-oem), and after that, that specific color (magenta) would not work when printing. All the other colors seemed to be ok.

I'm fairly mechanical but have never messed with a printer before (I normally do automotive electronics, electronics component repairs), so I guess I'll take it apart and see what the deal is.

Before I read this thread I figured some sort of synching gear or indexing gear or something had to be off somewhere due to gear slippage from the stiff cartridge gear, but this thread definitely helped to point me in the right direction So I will check out the carousel drive and the solenoid.

Awesome forum here, and at least I have something new to tinker with and hopefully not break LOL

Ok all fixed, thanks to you guys!

It took me a while to get the case apart without any tab damage since I've never had to disassemble a printer before.

I checked the index marks on the gears and the carousel and they were correct.

Then I noticed that what was causing the carousel to go past the stopping point was partly the weight of the other cartridges with the centrifugal motion. It just wasn't catching the notch. Solenoid was working perfectly, but then like Realtech mentioned, I checked and there was a sticky patch where I assume there was a pad on the arm. At that point I realized that the arm was simply being stuck for a microsecond too long to come back down to catch the notch properly, and even though it was stopping close to the correct point, the centrifugal motion was carrying it like 1/2" further. Small tab of paper in there and it's all fixed

My non-oem cartridge's stiff roller gear was probably just causing other weird noises, which I then associated with the loading problem. It did happen at the same time though which is weird.

Apparently the missing colors were happening due to the arm not catching the notch in time and the centrifugal motion pulling the carousel just slightly out of position.

      You guys are awesome!!!

I've had issues with that solenoid before as well. I need to update my service note. I either replace it or I've removed the pad and put a small piece of black electrical tape to fix it. Glad we could be of service.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".
