Got to love Vista...
I am working on a small network (4 end users) and have a HP 2600n hooked to the network. 3 of the 4 computers install the printer with no problems. Can do it as a local and add the port with the tcp/ip address for the printer or as a network device.
The last one I cannot get it to install. I can ping the printer from the workstation, I can log into the EWS for the printer so I know the computer sees and can communicate with the device. When I go to install the printer, it finds the printer, goes to install the driver of course its not listed in the device list. At this point I choose "have disk" like I did with the others, locate the driver and click next.
After several minutes of it thinking it comes back and says it cannot install the driver because it is in use by another process. I uninstalled all ports and previous install attempts of the printer. Still no luck. I have logged into safe mode with networking and tried to install via there. Everytime though I get the message that the file is being used by another process and it does not appear to be.
This machine I have installed a m4345 installed as well (networked) and that works fine. I have even uninstalled that printer and tried to do the 2600n first to no avail. The 4345 installs flawless. About 2 months or so ago I tried to install a p2015 on this workstation with the same results as the 2600n.
I know everything is pointing to the computer, so not sure if any one here has some network knowledge or has ran into this problem before. Any suggestions on what to try next would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
