try installing new firmware or reseat firmware chip. Make sure all optional equipment is removed (jet direct card/opt tray etc...) If everything I've said up to now sounds like Greek to you, take the machine to a trained professional. Please...
Ok, guess I have to spell this out...
If it is under warranty, get HP to replace unit. If not, go to next step.
If it has a built in network port (network port soldered to the formatter).
If it has a jet direct card, power down printer, remove the jet direct and power it back up. Does it go to ready? Yes = replace jet direct card. No = go to next step.
Does it have a firmware DIMM or is firmware built in?
If it's built in, replace the formatter. (The formatter is the main board that has the USB & Network port/slot for network card.) If it is a DIMM, try reseating it. If it has the same problem, replace the DIMM.
