    HP 9050 Finisher

I am working on a C8085A finisher (attached to a 9050 MFP). The finisher was not stapling all the pages and noticed that 2 of the tires on the rollers had come off. At this point I replaced the accumulator with a new one.

After putting in the new accumulator, I put it back together and booted up the device. At which point, when the machine came up it said "Output paper path open" reattach left accessory. After further investigating I came across that the interlock switch seemed to be working in reverse. If I slide the finisher away from the printer it gets a green light and printer goes to ready. If I return the finisher as it should, the finisher starts blinking red and I get the message as stated previously.

I know when replacing the accumulator I did not touch or do anything with the interlock switch so not sure what is causing this. My plan of attack is to upgrade the firmware and test tomorrow, and maybe look into getting a new interlock switch.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or things to try? Has anyone ran into this before? Thanks for any help.

This one doesn't have any magnets to lock it into place but I do know what you are talking about. I have a 9000 that has this setup. I know the finisher is locked into place though. If I move the finisher away from the device it says its ready and green light is on on the finisher. With the finisher away from the printer if I push the interlock switch in, as it should be when its against the printer, it says that the paper path is open, to close the left accessory and the finisher has the red light blinking. As soon as I let off the interlock switch it goes back to ready with the finisher at least a foot away from the printer.

Yesterday I went to do the firmware upgrade on the device and I could not get it to take. I used a crossover cable and sent it through FTP in IE, it said performing upgrade, rebooted, and went to ready. One thing I noticed is when it rebooted, I usually see A,B,C... and it highlights the letters as it goes through boot up. This time it never did and when I printed a config page it still had the old firmware. I than tried FTP through command prompt, said performing upgrade, rebooted (same as IE no letters). When I printed a config page still had old firmware. Finally I tried to upgrade via an FTP client (filezilla) with the exact same results.

At this point I don't know if a firmware upgrade would fix the interlock switch issue as I know some firmware updates also update the firmware in the finishers. Any suggestions on why it wont take or any other ways to try to get it to take and hold for the upgrade? I looked at HP and there is no easy firmware update for the 9050 just FTP. This is the non m version

Also any other suggestions about the interlock switch?? Thanks for the help.

It shld definitely have those magnets I have seen where the stapler is out of position and it wont allow that bottom door to close correctly thats what it sounds like to me is the problem when its up close to the machine the door is not closed correctly. As far as the firmware I would say ping it on the internet and go into networking tab and on the left is security settings down under other protocols it shld say FTP firmware upgrade enabled. Be careful if you have to move that stapler a little bit by hand because that belt snaps really easily done that before Then its no fun to replace.

So I was back out there today for a brief moment. I see where the magnets should mount like on all the other 9000, 9050, series but there was none there. The machine stays intact though without the magnets. Its been running without them for well over a year.

For the bottom door that covers the stapler, it is def closed. I even went to the extent of removing the door and using clips to depress the sensor switches for that door to make sure they were engaged. As soon as I put it back against the machine, and the interlock switch engages, it says the paper path is open and to move the left accessory. As soon as its moved far enough away from the device so that the interlock switch is disengaged it goes to ready and will print.

At this point the rubber stops I put in place is working to prevent the interlock switch from being triggered. And it is close enough to the printer that its not causing jams. I will be ordering a interlock switch as the rubber stops are truely a temp fix.

Wow thats a weird one. Well what made me believe it had somethin to do with the stapler is that you have to move it around to get that accumulator in there. Good luck and post your results I'd like to hear the end result

Update...I resolved this last week. It ended up being the stapler controller board. Something happened to the service mode switch that is on the board. It was putting the device in a limbo you could say. It wasn't in service mode but it wasn't in normal operation mode. The switch was broke and moved freely so it was not making contact with the metal tabs for the board to determine which mode it was in.

Once board was replaced, it started working properly

                I'm getting the exact problem.

HP C8085A Finisher attached to an HP LJ9000

                Message says "Reattach left accessory"

The interlock switch is working in reverse so I replaced it. Same problem.

After that I found this post from my phone while on site, removed the stapler board and sure enough, the service switch was broken.

I'll be quoting the customer on a new board tomorrow.
