HP Flatbed scanners are not repairable. You can try disconnecting/reconnecting cables to printer or you can replace the entire flatbed. Trust me when I say this, I have never seen one of these machines that didn't require 2 hours labor. My solution is, convince customer to buy a new machine (one without a carousel) because it's probably not going to be worth fixing. Only other option would be find a used one with a working flatbed and use that to fix the one you have.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".
