Not sure if this makes a difference but printers are on a Win Server 2k3 and used with an AS400. Reason I don't think this will be a problem will be explained little later. Client has had some of these without any problems. Sorry for the long post but want to be detailed as I am at a loss.
Problem is the printers (multiples with this problem, only one group of users really reporting though) are not resetting after a copy job. If a user walks up to the device and makes say 3 copies. Once the copies are done the printer will stay with the number 3 on the device. You can also just walk up to the device hit a number and printer will retain that number as the number of copies and does not reset after inactive timeout should occur. The printer also does not always print out network prints when this happens. If you walk up to the device and hit the reset button it will print the network prints then. Also noticed an occasional fax will print out with lines vs print this is why I replaced the fax module first.
I believe for some reason the device hangs and does not reset, than someone sends a print job from AS400 which gets stuck in que. Once a single job gets stuck than any other network prints would be stuck in que behind it. Not being at customer site when it first happens I don't know whats the first job in que but when I get there I know the device will not reset itself.
This seems to be an intermittent problem that if you reboot the device it goes away for a couple days than comes back. Here is what I have done in this order with a reboot on each so it appears to work fine but few days later client calls back.
-Fax module replaced.
-Checked and lowered timeout activity to lowest settings and rebooted
-Upgraded firmware
-Did a Disk INT
-Replaced the HDD
-Performed a cold reset and nvram
-replaced the formatter
-replaced the dc controller
-replaced the device with a new refurbished one(this also had same problem thought could be power related as it had same problem)
-replaced power cord
-changed outlet
At this time was thinking weird ok its happening on 2 devices has to be something with environment or this user group. Thought was to switch the printer out with another one that is around the corner (at this time nothing was reported on the other device) so figured would swap it with a good known working one. When I went to get the new device from the other department thats when they stated they have been having the same issue. I than walked around and probbed other departments with this model and noticed some are having the same issues while others are not or just not realizing it.
At this time (last friday) I have one of these models at the shop that has been working flawless for about a year now. I took this to the customer plugged it and brought the first one back to the shop. So far no complaints from the customer will be checking back today or tomorrow. However their device I brought back just started to not reset itself again. Went to leave last night and hit the number 5, it stayed with that on the screen for over 5 mins before I left. Did it again this morning and still doing the same thing, only difference is my network prints still print. Believe that with the client using AS400 one of the jobs they print is getting stuck when device does not reset from AS400 and ques up all other prints.
With everything I have done I cannot think of anything else to try. The only other thing to change would be the power supply. But thats a little bit of a job especially if I have to do it on several of them and not sure if that will resolve the issue.
Has anyone else ran into this resetting problem before or any ideas what could fix this??
Again sorry for the long post but kind of unique and wanted to detail it out. Thanks in advance.
