OfficeJet 8500 issue with Mac printing

I try to avoid inkjets as a rule, but I have a Mac running OS X 10.5.8 that is having issues connecting to an OfficeJet 8500 connected via IP. I've installed the software package off HP's website, but the computer cannot configure the printer, or connect to it, even though it tells me it's set up with a valid IP. I've tried connecting via LPD, IPP and JetDirect socket, but in each case it will not print.

The same Mac is connected to a LaserJet 2300 with no issues. Other computers in the office both Mac (newer OS version) and PC (XP and 7) print with no issues.

Any ideas from the HP gurus?

Found the issue after much trial and error: the software suite bundled with the driver was blocked by the Mac's firewall. Enabled support and everything started working, albeit a little slower than newer Mac and PC clients.

Thanks for the PM suggestions from everyone!
