    m9040

    Hello all

I've got a problem to go to on monday. the machine has a fax installed and when a fax is being sent and the customer wants to copy concurrently the machine displays 'scanning', the fax goes and the machine can take 10 minutes to process the copies, or it hangs with scanning displayed until switched off. the firmware is up to date.

I am thinking cold reset etc. but wondered if anyone out there had any other possibilities.

    Thanks

I've had this problem on an M4345mfp but have never gotten to work on an M9040. For the M4345mfp it is sometimes just dirty white backing or white mylar or flatbed glass. You should be able to run diagnostics on the scanner and make sure the lamp comes on, etc... On other occasions I had to reinitialize the hard drive or replace it if reinitializing didn't work. On rare occasions I've had to replace the formatter. Some people have had to replace the entire flatbed scanner. I don't know if this is related to your problem, but I thought I'd mention it.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

Thanks for the info prntrfxr. I couldn't get there yesterday but a colleague had a look in. after switch on the panel displays the usual hp invent screen and the number 1 appears as normal but it takes 10 minutes to fully boot to the operational screen. once booted from the admin button being pressed to printing a config pages takes 2 minutes. everything works just takes a while!!!!

I've come across scanner initialization faults in the past but that is the last item in the start up process. i'm going to go in asap and remove the formatter and see how an engine test prints. if thats ok i'll remove the hdd and see how it goes on bootup.

          Re: m9040

Hard drive fixed the problem. got a look at the config page and the drive size was 76gb. label said 80gb, so a trip to the local computer shop and a new drive sorted the problem.
